Weekly Musings #3

Fairy lights in frosted vases look amazing on a dark cold night.

Homemade double chocolate cookies are delicious and make the week a lot easier to deal with.

On Saturday I had a tuna melt for lunch from Debenhams – it was so delicious – how could I forget that these existed? I think lunch here might become my new favourite weekend thing!

Sometimes I wish I lived in America so that I could watch more live NFL games. Two games a year at Wembley is just not enough for me.

I think my obsession with Pringles has returned with a vengeance! This is so not good people.

Also I have now been asked for a Christmas list twice and it is (just about) still September. I love it! Best get writing one I guess!

And finally my lovely sister bought me a present for no other reason than that she is super duper! Aren’t these wooden owls just lovely? I have a bit of a thing about anything to do with owls. I just think that they are such beautiful creatures and so wise with those big beautiful eyes. This is one reason why I’m sure I was meant to get a Hogwarts letter! Anyway these now have pride of place on my bedroom shelf next to my Lego black cab.

Shopping in September – Budgeting Bloggers link up

How is it this time again already?
Time certainly flies hey! This month has been a good month for me. I’m in under budget but I’ve got some lovely new things ready for the colder months. You can tell the weather has changed as I’m all about jumpers this month. I bought three this month…I think I have a problem guys. Also I think I have an obsession with Gap as I also bought three items from there this month – the 25% off was too good to ignore.
Shopping in September
So first we have the Gap things, a jumper, jeans and a t-shirt. At least I went for varied items I guess. I seem to be having a real love affair with Gap at the moment. I’m also loving their underwear range too.

1. 1969 legging jeans, Gap – £29.96 (with 25% off online – original price £39.95) – comfiest jeans ever. I have already worn these too many times to count. I’m very tempted to get myself a black pair soon too.

2. Printed raw-edge slub T, Gap – £11.22 (with 25% off online – original price £14.95) – a t-shirt with stars! How could I resist. I’ve actually been tempted to get these for ages, but I stayed strong. Until now that is.

3. Pointelle Sweater in Grey, Gap – £18.71 (with 25% off online – original price £24.95) – softest jumper I have ever owned. It’s got shorter sleeves so I can wear it while the weather is still mild without overheating. Always a good thing in my book.

4. Striped pointelle jumper, George @ Asda – £14 – One thing I’ve learn is that I shouldn’t be allowed into Asda without someone to be my conscience. This superstore has some lovely items and being by myself meant that I had absolutely no will power. Oh well, I only bought two pieces of clothing and this jumper is so nautical that I couldn’t resist.

I also got this peach shirt, which I can’t find online. So you’ll have to see my bad photography instead! I’ve been after a few more colourful tops for work and this one fit the bill perfectly. It’s not too smart that it stands out – yes this is an issue in my office.

Embroidered shirt, George @ Asda – £12

These next three items were all presents from my Mum and youngest sister when they were in Australia visiting our family. As well as bringing back three packs of Tim Tams they also did a bit of clothes shopping for me. How lovely is that, especially as it was completely unexpected.

5. Drapey Pants, Cotton On – Gift (original price £17.50). Comfiest trousers ever! Ordinarily I wouldn’t even look at these trousers but as they were a present I tried them on and proceeded to live in them.

6. Ugg Boots – AUS$80.00 (£60)

7. 90’s day dress, Cotton On – Gift (original price £17.50). Mine is a different pattern and colour but it’s not on the website. I love this dress. It’s long enough not to need tights, but it’s also perfect with tights now that it’s getting colder. An all year round dress then – what more do I need?

Necklace, H&M – £7.99 – I was admiring a necklace just like this over on brynnash’s August budgeting bloggers post and moaning about not being able to find anything like it in the UK. Then not 3 days later I found this necklace in H&M. How perfect is that. Clearly I should have moaned a bit earlier!

Total – £97.88

Once again I’m linking up with Franish and the other budgeting bloggers so don’t forget to take a look at how they did this month too.

What about all you lovely people, what things have you been buying this month and is anyone else as obsessed with Gap as I am?

Favourite Things #35

Hello, hello,

Yes it’s that time of the week again. Doesn’t it just come around so quickly? So, I hear you ask what are my favourite things this week?

Well firstly let’s discuss Downton Abbey. Does everyone else absolutely love this program? I hope so, because you should – Downton and Great British Bake Off are proof that British TV is at it’s best in the Autumn. I am so pleased it’s back on our TV screens. I simply loved the first episode and I feel like so much stuff has already happened. I like that they’ve skipped forward sixth months and the introduction of the electric mixer made me chuckle. I already can’t wait for Sunday’s installment.

Have you seen the new posters for the Divergent film? If not check them out on Hypable here. It’s all very dark and dangerous and I love that tattoo that Tris has but let’s be honest it’s all about Four right. Was I the only one imagining his tattoos when I read the book? I hope not. Either way I’m definitely not disappointed by the below poster.

Also I loved this post from Fi’s Daily Ponderings where she asks the question ‘Why doesn’t money grow on trees?’ I wish I knew the answer to that but I do honestly hope that scientists are looking into this as I type!

Right, who knew there was a new Harry Hole book and didn’t tell me? I love Jo Nesbo so am totally excited to read this. The question is will I wait and add it to my Christmas list or just splurge on it now?

Finally this week I have started a bit of a love affair with peppermint tea, I’m not sure why, possibly because it’s Autumn now and everyone wants warm things surrounding them. But when I’m at work and I want a second coffee of the day I reach for the peppermint tea instead and feel instantly comforted. Bliss.

Happy Friday and enjoy the weekend. I’m off to Wembley for the NFL London game and I’m also hoping to get a few miles of running. Fun times indeed!

Resolutions

So today’s post really started as a bit of a ramble. I had all these things going through my mind and to get them into some sort of order I started to make a list. It was a list to sort out and change things in my life and as I started typing these I realised that actually there was a bit of a running theme – positive change.

So that’s what this post is about, it’s about sorting out myself to be more positive in all aspects of my life. I suppose it’s a bit of a follow on from my positive customer service post, to focus on the good rather than the bad. In fact maybe they’re like resolutions even. Who knows… Anyway here’s how I am planning on sorting myself out one small step at a time.

DSCN0472_final

Sort out my blog design – I’m so not happy with how this blog looks at the moment. I’ve left it pretty basic for now with just a header design and I don’t want to change it until I get it right. Until I look at it and it feels like me, not just some boring version of me. I mean that’s what a blog is about right, a place to share a bit (or a lot) of yourself with the world. I believe I do this with what I talk about on here but the look of my blog? I don’t think so. It’s dull and if there’s one thing I know about myself it’s that I don’t do dull. I’m about fun and laughs and glitter and colour and polka dots and lots of pictures. So here’s to making the look of my blog reflect me more. On that note I’ve decided I want to do the grunt work – i.e the design – myself. I want to learn these new techniques rather than get other people to do it for me help me. It would be so brilliant to be able to unveil my blog and see all MY hard work, what an achievement. So quite a long term aim but I’m certainly excited at the prospect.

Know how I am spending my money – It’s so easy to not realise what you are spending, isn’t it? I’m not having money problems per se but I am aware that I do waste money some days; £5 on lunch a couple of times a week, £80 on the food shop because I got distracted by clothes and tupperware – yes that really did happen! I need to make better choices and have some self control most of the time. I mean splurging now and again is natural, but all the time? Not so much. Also I want to be able to buy Christmas presents for everyone without having to use my credit card – yes I pay it off each month, but actually I should be able to save up money before then just for presents. I quite like the thought of paying for everything in cash this year and staying away from internet shopping. So here’s to writing down everything I spend for a while. I’m still going to internet window shop of course – like I could stop that even if I wanted to!

Run more – don’t just stop at the 4 mile mark, push myself further. I have a half marathon to train for after all. But also I’m going to stop myself getting negative if I only run 3 miles as that’s a sure fire way to get me hating this hobby of mine and I definitely don’t like the idea of that. I love running, it’s a great relaxation and calming method for me and I don’t want to loose that by pushing myself too much to run more.

20130527_093242_final

Stop putting things off – be it making big decisions, small jobs (I’m talking about the pile of hand washing that has literally been waiting since March) or getting organised. Basically I am a dab hand at procrastination. Another example of this is the knitting post I have been writing for well over three months. Somehow I haven’t got the time to take the pictures of my projects or to block out my blanket, yet I can easily watch 3 hours of Friday Night Lights at a time!

Don’t punish myself – I touched on this a little bit in resolution number 1. I am so good at having a go at myself for silly thing. Like when I forget to make that phone call or I eat my weight in cake instead of going to the gym. Come on you know what I mean, we all do it right. Well I’m going to try and be nicer to myself – to not beat myself up if I have a bad food day, get snappy or forget to send a card on time.

So there we have it, my positive change resolutions. I’m hoping that writing these down and having somewhere to refer to them will help. Plus I hope all my lovely readers will help to keep me accountable, so if you hear me doing something that goes against these, be it on here or on twitter then please do call me out on it.

Weekly Musings #2

Greetings lovely people. Here are just a few things that have crossed my mind this week.

Why the hell did it take me so long to discover the perfect food combination that is chocolate and peanut butter? I think I am becoming slightly addicted to anything that has this combo in!

I have officially got my Autumn socks out this week. My favourite pair just happen to have owls all over them.

wpid-2013-09-21-13.28.23.png

How do weekends go by so quickly? I swear it was only just Friday. I’ve had a completely unproductive weekend so far and it’s 7pm already! It’s been great being quite lazy though.

This week I also had the pleasure of being at Waterloo train station at rush hour. Gosh how I don’t miss this, not even a little bit, not even at all.

wpid-20130918_180413.jpg

So my youngest sister has just headed back to university for the beginning of her second year. Apart from being completely unhappy about this because she’s so far away now it has also made me realise that I started university myself 10 years ago this month. Yes 10 years, gee whizz doesn’t this make me feel old.

Why do I always forget that the humble digestive is so delicious? Luckily there were leftovers of these after a bought of cooking, so I have plans to spend the evening with these, Downton Abbey and a hot chocolate.

How has the week been for you all?
